Carmody Family on Missions: We, Chris & Karen, married in our early twenties and eagerly jumped into adult life. We bought a cute little starter house and spent the weekends fixing it up. As we moved into our 30s, we shifted our focus to the four beautiful children the Lord had blessed us with. By the time we reached age 40, we felt settled and comfortable. Then, The Lord spoke clearly and told us to give everything away and become full-time foreign missionaries. Never had we considered such a life for our family; however, we did as we were told. In 2015, we left everything behind: families, friends, successful careers, social groups, and an incredible homeschooling network and joined Family Missions Company. After four months of intensive formation, we left for Peru, where we spent the next three years preaching the Gospel and serving the poor in the Amazon jungle. After returning to the U.S. for a time of rest, we served the marginalized on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. We then served a little over a year in Kenya and a little over a year in Puerto Rico. Our family moved to Costa Rica in November 2021 where we currently serve.
